FUN FACT: Can a Formula 1 car really drive upside down? πŸŽοΈπŸ’¨

According to the Formula 1 Official website, the answer is YES.

A modern Formula One car is capable of developing 3.5g lateral cornering force (three and a half times its own weight) thanks to aerodynamic downforce.

That means, that theoretically, at high speeds they could drive upside down. πŸŽοΈπŸ’¨ πŸ€ͺ

But there’s a bit more to it with the physics calculations to work this out.

A key factor is the “traction” that the car has to have and retain with the road surface while driving with this “downforce”.

So the trick is you need to drive this car at around 130 mph.

If you slow down beyond that, likely to fall straight back down …

So no parking upside-down!
